Commercial Society SERICAROM SA is the only unit from Romania that produces and distributes silkworm eggs and effectuates scientific research in the sericultural field.

Sericicultura reprezinta una din sursele de materie prima pentru industria textila, dar si o activitate menita sa aduca venituri suplimentare populatiei rurale.

Pe de alta parte, nu este lipsit de interes faptul ca viermele de matase este implicat in cercetari de biotehnologie, mentionand in acest sens producerea de substante de uz alimentar si farmaceutic.

SERICAROM S.A. is the unique unit in the country that holds the sericultural genetic stock from Romania, being preserved “in situ” 72 silkworm races – Bombyx mori sp. and 60 mulberry varieties.

The society participates at national and international scientific events, edits papers and scientific materials in the sericultural field.

HISTORY

1906 – It is established “Sericultural Station and mulberry nursery Cotroceni” 1916 – It is transformed into “Sericultural Station Baneasa” with residence in Kiseleff Road 1954 – The Station’s residence is moved in Bucuresti-Ploiesti Road, km. 9 1957 – The Station fuses with the “Apiculture” section from I.C.Z. and it is established “The Central Research Station for Apiculture and Sericulture Baneasa” 1974 – The Station is reorganized into “The Research Station for Sericulture” Baneasa 1977 - The Station is reorganized into “The Central Station of Production and Research for Sericulture” Baneasa 1991 – The sericulture is reorganized into the Commercial Society “SERICAROM” S.A. Bucharest
